Hotel Review: The Phanasan Hotel, Tak

January 2, 2012 By Laura Dal Farra Leave a Comment

The Phanasan Hotel is conveniently located within a short walking distance to the Taksin Maharachanuson Fair that is annually held from December 28 to January 3. The hotel offers a variety of accommodations from small attached rooms to detached bungalows. It’s country living in the city.

The Room

Sparse and functional, the bungalow I rented offered a good night’s rest as it was far from the main street. It was very clean upon entering, but for some reason my room wasn’t cleaned daily. I suggest asking.

The Staff

The definite highlight of my stay, The Phanasan Hotel staff were friendly, solid people who offered their assistance and friendship (and bananas!).

The Surrounding Area

The hotel is a short walk to the above mentioned fair, in addition to the T.A.T. (Tourist Authority Of Thailand) office. The Ping River is close-by and easily accessed on foot. Shopping malls are within an hour walk. The Phanasan Hotel is also within a 5 – 10 minute walk from the Tak City bus terminal.

Bummer

After cleaning my room on one occasion, staff had forgotten to offer my roommate and I blankets. They were provided on request but unfortunately they reeked of sweaty man, meaning the new blankets had been used. Mine was so rank, I threw it on the floor by the door and needed to sniff something good to clean my sensory organs. In defense of the day staff, the foul blankets weren’t their doing and because of how wonderful they were, I overlooked this. Due to how clean the room was when we arrived (my roommate and I both commented on it), I’ll take what happened as a potential oddity. I really have no idea what the individual who gave us those blankets was thinking.

Would I Return?

There’s a 50/50 shot I would. However, should I not return to rest at The Hoongthip Hotel, I’d drop by and visit the staff.

About Laura Dal Farra

After a six month adventure training Muay Thai in Thailand in 2007, Laura Dal Farra returned to her native Canada, sold most of what she owned, and boarded a plane set for Bangkok alone. She spent the next 3.5 years training in traditional Muay Thai gyms, pushing her limits, and embracing the unknown. Realizing little was being written on the subject, she began to blog about it. Laura Dal Farra is the founder of Milk.Blitz.Street.Bomb.
