Hotel Review: Hacienda Peter Resort, San Juan, La Union, Philippines

Of the more economical accommodations choices on Urbiztondo beach, Hacienda Peter isn’t a compromise for the budget minded traveler. The feel of Hacienda Peter is warm without being intrusive, chill without being aloof. The horseshoe layout encourages community as guests can relax outside of their rooms. In addition, there are hang out spots that facilitate community.

I stayed for over two weeks and was rarely wakened by the noise of others. Hacienda Peter is a spot where you are apt to find long-term surf enthusiasts. There’s a quality to it that feels like someplace to stay for awhile.

The Rooms

Colourful, simple and clean with a private lavatory, cold water taps and a fan. I stayed during the month of February and felt no need for aircon. Priced at 700 PHP (16.83 USD) at time of writing. Aircon and dormitory style rooms are also available.

The Staff

I instantly liked the owner Pacita. I first arrived before the 1 pm check-in while staff were cleaning the premises. I was checking out a room and agreeing to it when Pacita arrived and showed me a nicer room for the same price. Pacita discounted my rate as I was booking for over a week without my asking. I also inquired about a mirror as neither room had one. One was delivered to me later that day. Lastly, I had a medical mishap while staying at Hacienda Peter. Pacita and staff not only assisted me on the premises, Pacita and staff member Nicole accompanied me to the hospital.

No hidden agendas at Hacienda Peter during my entire stay.

Would I Book Again?

With pleasure.

most of them do. there is, one or two rooms, not pictured here that use a shared toilet and bath located outside the room(s). all rooms pictured on the website have their own toilet and bath, as far as i’m aware.

      Hi Mizuki,

I booked the room when I arrived. As far as I know, they don’t have a website and I didn’t get their telephone number. When I was in La Union, it was easy to find accommodation. If one hotel was full, there were rooms in another. People would come to and leave La Union every day. If you arrive during the week, it is easier to find a room because on the weekends, people from Manila go to La Union too. I hope you have a great time in La Union!

      Hi Hannah,

I travelled to La Union with Surfista Travels. Here’s my review on the experience.

      http://www.milkblitzstreetbomb.com/sea/the-philippines/surfista-travels-review/

I stayed longer than the tour, and took a bus back. Many buses run on the main road/highway near the beach. You can also get one in nearby San Fernando.

Hi Ara. I’m sorry but I don’t have their cellphone number. Most people reserved rooms in person while I was there.

      Hi Angelica,

It’s only a short walk down the beach from the San Juan Surf Resort. Very close.

we went there last April 30, our founder paid 1 million and 65,000 pesos for the 5 star accommodation of of our smarcommunity members but the accommodation was not 5 star, to describe it was bias, unfair, no water available, no electricity, the food was short, the mineral water was short, and worst the tables and the stage are so simple it can be done by a first grade student and the owner is nowhere to be found. if i’ll rate it, it will be zero out of 10

Hello Marjorie, just so you know and everyone will know, your founder agreed to a deal with third party and outsource the food from a caterer, the role of the resort is only the venue at the beach front and not inside the resort itself.

For the 5 star accommodation, your founder was well aware that the price he is paying is 350 per person per meal is not 5 star and he is the one who chose the menu.

      The total payment is 2,265,000
But your founder only paid 1,065,000

Also for the room accommodation your founder booked rooms from different resorts, you only book 4 rooms from Hacienda.
