Sitmonchai Gym Review
Within a few days of arriving at Sitmonchai Gym, I was out of commission. If you're interested in reading about it, you can do so here. Otherwise, to keep it brief, a wonky mattress + an old injury + allergies to the meds for the old injury and wonky mattress combo = no training. Too sick to return to Buriram, but cognizant enough to hang out at Sitmonchai for two weeks and pay attention to all it is that makes Sitmonchai a family style gym. If you're looking for a review on training, unfortunately, this isn't the post. I'm not going to write on that which I couldn't fully get into. If you're looking for all that surrounds your training, for that which is meant to … [Read more...]
Muay Thai Indonesia: Rudy Agustian of Golden Camp MuayThai
Welcome to the first of the MBSB interviews. I met Golden Camp Muaythai owner Rudy Agustian while visiting Sitmonchai Gym. The following interview was conducted on October 9. Rudy and I had a fun time trying to find a time when the gym was quiet, the lighting was good, and the mosquitoes weren't on the hunt. The following is a bit unpolished, but fairly true to life at a gym, interruptions and all. This was a set-up-the-camera-on-a-muay-thai-pad-and-electrolyte-box-click-and-run production. Two takes and the gym came back to life. You're getting Take One. I want to thank Rudy for allowing me to conduct this interview. Supastar. KO’d At Sitmonchai
The intent was to make the seven plus hour trip to Sitmonchai Gym, Thamaka, Kanchanaburi to hook up with friends, write a review of the gym and pick up on Sitmonchai's style of delivering devastating punches and low kicks. Low kicks score minimal points in Thailand. As a result a number of gyms pay them little mind. For example, I had the habit of annoying a past trainer by delivering low kicks during our pad sessions. He kept telling me they were ugly. Not mine particularly, just in general. Sitmonchai fighters in contrast are known to utilize low kicks to disable their opponents by KO. Ironically, one sentence into this post and I received a text that … [Read more...]

Muay Thai Wire: SIT-O GYM, BURIRAM CLOSURE 2011
My search for a new trainer brought me to the now defunct and abandoned Sit-O Gym. Approximately one year ago, I submitted a post on My Muay Thai stating the gym was closed. This was based on the testimonies of a number of people. We were all incorrect, it had moved. (Although, speaking to others in the business today, I was told it has been closed for the past three years...?) I suspect some of the confusion may be based in what is considered 'closed'. Regardless, being accompanied by a past Sit-O nak muay coupled with visiting a now unemployed Sit-O kru, I believe it is safe to say, Sit-O Gym Buriram is no longer in operations under any capacity in the city of … [Read more...]
