How to Do a Thai Visa Run from Buriram

A Thai visa run from Buriram can be completed in one day, which is great news for those of you accustomed to longer trips. If you’re interested in obtaining a Thai visa, the closest Thai Embassy or Consulate border point is only an approximate four and a half hour drive away.

Visa Run from Buriram Information

Border Immigration Point for Those with a Thai Visa – Chong Chom, Thailand to O’Smach, Cambodia

The closest border crossing to Buriram province is the Chong Chom – O’Smach border point. Chong Chom is located in Surin province and O’Smach is located in bordering Cambodia. It’s approximately a one and a half hour drive from Buriram city to the Chong Chom border point. Please note, as there isn’t a Thai Embassy or Consulate in O’Smach, the Chong Chom – O’Smach border crossing is only useful if you already have a Thai visa and are leaving Thailand as outlined in the visa’s requirements.

At time of writing, there isn’t a dedicated bus leaving from Buriram city to Chong Chom. However, several independent casino tour companies leave from Buriram city to O’Smach daily. Please note, casino owners/operators may not be able to speak English language. If you’re interested in visiting the Chong Chom – O’Smach border point by casino bus, I suggest having a local help sort it out (and possibly come with you).

If you prefer to rent a car to make the trip, or prefer to hire a driver, please read further on the subject below in Buriram Car Rental & Taxi Information.

Border Immigration Point for Those without a Thai Visa – Mukdahan, Thailand to Savannakhet, Laos

The closest Thai Embassy or Consulate to Buriram province is located in Savannakhet, Laos.  It borders Mukdahan, Thailand. Chris of My Egg Noodles blog wrote an incredible entry on his experience, including travel and hotel details, here. You can view photos I took during my stay in Savannakhet here; my review of the hotel I stayed at in Mukdahan here; and my review of the hotel I stayed at in Savannahket here.

Buriram Car Rental & Taxi Information

There are plenty of places to rent vehicles in Buriram. However, if you are unable to speak Thai language, Buriram Expats and Buriram Car Hire are businesses owned by foreigners that offer car rental services. Additionally, Buriram Expats offers a visa run package, where a hired driver will take you where you need to go.

Thai Visa Information

Visit Thai Visa for the most up to date information regarding visas for Thailand. Please note, not all visas issued for Thailand are the same.   I recommended that you research and understand your particular visa’s details.

About Laura Dal Farra

After a six month adventure training Muay Thai in Thailand in 2007, Laura Dal Farra returned to her native Canada, sold most of what she owned, and boarded a plane set for Bangkok alone. She spent the next 3.5 years training in traditional Muay Thai gyms, pushing her limits, and embracing the unknown. Realizing little was being written on the subject, she began to blog about it. Laura Dal Farra is the founder of Milk.Blitz.Street.Bomb.
