My interest in the Philippines can be traced back to, I believe, my introduction to corn nuts. It was pre grade six when a kid agreed to a lunch goody trade off. What did I give her? No clue, but I distinctly call to mind gleefully crunching on a Filipino corn nut variation that had traveled back with her from the islands that past summer.
And so began my curiosity of the Philippines, which as the years passed was nourished by samplings of longanisa, steamed fish with eyeballs and tales of cheese ice cream. It wasn’t soley about munching on things, however when I try to recall what initially got ahold of me…what zaps in my mind are memories of hanging in the schoolyard at Bishop J.C. Cody School laughing and tasting corn nuts for the first time with a Filipina kid sporting a mushroom cut.
What does this have to do with anything?
The ocean has been calling pretty consistently and when I decided to answer it, thoughts of the Philippines filtered into my brain cavity and were received by bites of Filipino culture exposure back home in Canada. Which included corn nuts.
The answer? By the time you’re reading this, I should be in Manila. Perhaps gleefully eating cheese ice cream.
At the present time of writing, I have no idea what I’ll find myself doing past a surf tour with Surfista Travels.
Generally, tours initiate a sinking feeling in my core, I try to avoid them, however, something about Surfista Travels struck me. I came across them I believe a couple of days proceeding the release of the following two videos. It was these two babies that sold me. I’ve signed up for their first tour.
I plan to approach content in the Philippines differently than my last On The Road adventure through Thailand although I have no idea what form the content will come in.
In the meantime….
