Part 1 Being injured doesn't mean you can't follow your dreams; rather, you may have to reconsider your path. My first journey to Thailand to train Muay Thai began on January 1, 2007. Plagued with allergies, eczema and a dysfunctional hip due to being hit on foot by a car, I encountered more debilitating challenges in my six months in Thailand. In 2009 I returned to Thailand to follow a childhood dream - to train a martial art full-time and begin my nomadic life. This is Part 1 of how I disregarded the the diagnoses of various doctors and my chiropractor, followed my intuition and ultimately healed beyond what I was told was possible. It is also … [Read more...]
The Will To Fight – The Daniel Ketley Fund And Documentary
On June 8, sometime between 12:30 and 2:00 am, Australian born nak muay Daniel Ketley sustained extensive injuries enroute to visit a friend in Naiharn, Phuket, Thailand. From The Phuket News: Daniel left a friend’s house in Laguna around half past midnight, on his way to the Rawai/Naiharn area to see another friend. His last memory is of being in the Soi Saiyuan area, near Icon Bar and the 7-Eleven, and seeing a self-service petrol pump. After that it’s all a blank. He believes he may have stopped for petrol and been attacked then. Police in Chalong are treating him as yet another motorbike crash victim, but Daniel and his … [Read more...]
Announcing The Muay Ying Forum – Women’s Muay Thai Forum
Update April 20, 2013 - The Muay Ying Forum no longer exists. This decision was made to use the time to cultivate the MBSB community and not split my resources between the two sites. Feel free to check out my Tips For Women Traveling To Thailand page where you'll find information and stories on the female muay thai experience in Thailand. Hey People. Here's a recent project of mine, the Muay Ying Forum. The thought came to me to build it after reading another muay thai forum filled with net warriors writing weak diatribes and smack geared towards women, just for being women on the forum. Two days later, the domain name was purchased and tada - a muay … [Read more...]
Muay Thai Fight: Kayasith Chuwattana VS Petake Look Bor Gor, Rajadamnern Stadium, October 1, 2009
Update Februrary 2, 2015: It has been years since I've seen Kayasith fight and as far as I'm currently aware of, he has retired from Muay Thai. During my approximate year at Chuwattana gym in Bangkok, Kayasith was my favourite fighter to watch. His intelligence in the ring was nothing short of beautiful to me. I caught him in the latter years of his fight career and have never been able to find footage of Kayasith as a young fighter. I'm happy to provide at least a peak into his fighting with the footage in this piece and in a previous piece on his fight against Petmahachon Kiatsorranan. I apologize for the quality of the footage. … [Read more...]
Interview With John Wolcott Of Muay Thai Journal
In late February, John Wolcott of Muay Thai Is Life finished shooting a documentary on muay thai in Thailand. The documentary will be released as mini series over the course of 2012. I thought I'd catch John before post-production began to see where he's at. 1. Hey John. What were your goals stepping into shooting this doc? Hello Laura. Stepping into this documentary my aim was to learn more about the social dynamics of Muaythai; the aspects of the sport that get little-to-no recognition in the West. Fans and spectators get to see their favorite fighters compete all the time via the Internet, but how often do we get to learn about a fighter’s background or … [Read more...]
