Buriram Tourism

The city of Buriram, Thailand has been in a consistent state of expansion for years. When I first arrived in 2010, the city was under development and during the two and a half years I resided there, much changed and the momentum hasn’t stopped.  Local politician Newin Chidchob has been a driving force in Buriram’s development; he, among other Buriram residents and investors, have invested substantial amounts of energy and capital in an effort to reinvent the city.

Buriram is quickly becoming a sports and leisure destination among Thai nationals; it’s also home to the highly ranked Thai Premier League football / soccer team Buriram United FC, which draws in tourists from across the country. The city remains an off the beaten track tourist destination for foreigners, but that is changing as well.  Buriram is home to a small expat population; some who are also business owners, infusing their businesses, thus the city, with cultural diversity and amenities akin to Western norms.

Accommodations are readily available for short-term and long-term stays in Buriram City.

Buriram Hotels & Resorts

There are plenty of options of hotels in Buriram. As the city has been in a time of increased growth, hotel selection includes newly constructed buildings and grounds.   Additionally, travelling to and from a hotel to the Buriram bus and train stations is easy.  Some hotels are within walking distance while others are a short trip away. Tuk tuks, motorcycle taxis and taxis are available at both the bus and train stations.  They are generally available upon arrival.

It is possible to rent a hotel room on a month to month basis.  Generally, you will have to leave a cash deposit and some hotels require a minimum three months stay. I lived at Rinradee Place for over one year.  I had a fully furnished room with WiFi and cable television included in the price of rent. The use of air conditioning was charged monthly and based on my individual usage. Rates were fair; this was one of the reasons I stayed at Rinradee Place. I had experienced inflated rates at an apartment building I lived at previously.  Lastly, Rinradee Place was well managed, with friendly staff, an onsite store, and restaurant; it’s centrally located, within walking distance to the Buriram bus station; it’s within a few minutes walk of a local market; and lastly, it was safe and comfortable place for a female to live alone.

Buriram Hotel Booking Tip

When booking a hotel in Buriram, pay attention to the term Amphoe Mueang in the hotel listing.  Amphoe Mueang refers to the city the listing is in. For example, the following refers to Buriram City:

Amphoe Mueang Buri Ram

and this to Lamplaimat:

Amphoe Mueang Lam Plai Mat

As Buriram is both a province and a city, it can occasionally lead to confusion. Sometimes hotels are listed as Buriram City Center when they are not, by Western norms, technically near the city centre, or even in Buriram City. Sometimes they are located on the perimeter of the city.  I highly advise confirming the location of your desired hotel on the maps provided in each listing, particularly if you will not  use of a car or a motorbike.

Apartments & Guesthouses In Buriram

Buriram offers a large selection of guesthouses and apartments throughout the city. Some apartments require a deposit and a minimum of a three month stay. Please note, you can generally move in upon availability, you do not have to wait until the first of a month. In addition, some hotels offer monthly rates.

If you are a newcomer to Buriram, it is recommended that you find a hotel for your first few days and investigate the city to determine which neighbourhood you would like to live in.

Purchase Buriram Property & Land

There are a number of options for those interested in purchasing land and/or property in Buriram. Sometimes locating the real estate you desire is a matter of traveling through a neighborhood and inquiring about availability. Alternatively you can hire an agent*:

Buriram City Map

Detailed maps of Buriram are difficult to come by and a Google Maps search for Buriram City delivers meager results.  That being said, I’ve put together a guide on how to travel around Buriram City which includes a downloadable city  map and a detailed map of hotels.

About Laura Dal Farra

After a six month adventure training Muay Thai in Thailand in 2007, Laura Dal Farra returned to her native Canada, sold most of what she owned, and boarded a plane set for Bangkok alone. She spent the next 3.5 years training in traditional Muay Thai gyms, pushing her limits, and embracing the unknown. Realizing little was being written on the subject, she began to blog about it. Laura Dal Farra is the founder of Milk.Blitz.Street.Bomb.
