How to Travel to Buriram

Overview

 

bangkok to buriramBuriram province is located in Thailand’s northeast region of Isaan. The province’s capital Buriram City (Amphoe Mueang Buriram) lies approximately 410 km Northeast of Bangkok by road, and approximately 376 km by train. Buriram City is the land transportation hub for the rest of the province with buses and trains leaving daily to destinations in and outside of the province. Buriram’s airport is located near the town of Satuek approximately 35 km from the city’s centre. There are direct buses leaving from Bangkok to Buriram multiple times daily.

 

Buriram’s neighbouring provinces are Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat), Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham and Surin. To the south-east it borders Oddar Meancheay of Cambodia. Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) and Khon Kaen City are both major transportation hubs for the region of Isaan, in addition to Ubon Ratchathani, which lies further Northeast approximately 221.69 km by road.

How to Travel to Buriram by Bus

 

Traveling to the city of Buriram by bus is fairly easy. Most major cities have buses leaving for Buriram, although not all cities have direct lines. This is generally dependent on the city’s proximity to Buriram. The further your starting point, the greater the possibility of transferring buses.

 

Buses from Bangkok, Pattaya, Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat), Khon Kaen, Roi Et, Surin, Chiang Mai, Rayon, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaeo and Ubon Ratchathani run regularly to Buriram.

 

Should your destination be one of the smaller cities in Buriram province, you may have to initially travel to Buriram City, then transfer to another bus. Please note, often buses to smaller cities in the province stop fairly early (i.e. 6 pm). It is recommended to take this into consideration when traveling and make the necessary arrangements prior, if you have the option.

 

Traveling from Bangkok to Buriram by Bus

 

Bangkok’s Northern terminal (Mo Chit) has several air con and ordinary (fan) buses that leave regularly, some into the night. The average bus ride is between 5.5 and 6 hours long. Costs vary depending on carrier and type of bus. Nakhonchai Air has a terminal inside Bangkok’s Northern terminal (Mo Chit) and an independent terminal within close proximity to Mo Chit.  Once you arrive at Mo Chit, you will have to go up to the 3rd floor, as this is the area for buses leaving for Northeastern Thailand.

To get to the Northeastern bus terminal by BTS skytrain take the BTS skytrain to Mo Chit Station (transit stop). From there, hire a motorcycle taxi, tuk tuk or taxi to reach the bus terminal. They know Mo Chit well.

 

Nakhonchair Air Ltd.

 

Nakhonchai Air is a private bus company that services Thailand with terminals in most major cities. Ticket reservations are available up to 24 hours in advance via telephone and the web. Once reserved, the ticket may be purchased at any 7-Eleven in Thailand. You will need a confirmation code to do so. This will be given to you at the time of booking. Tickets may also be purchased at the terminal, based on availability. More information, visit the Nakhonchai Air website (Thai language).

 

Buriram Bus Station Location

 

The Buriram City bus station is located behind Bulamduan Road between Tanee Road and Jira Road. The road leading to the bus station is on the east side of Bulamduan Road and difficult to miss.

How to Travel to Buriram City by Car¹

 

From Bangkok to Buriram City by Car

 

  1. Take Hwy 1 (Phahon Yothin Road) to Saraburi.
  2. Turn right onto Hwy 2 (Mittraphap Road).
  3. Turn right onto Hwy 24 (Chok Chai-Det Udom Road).
  4. Drive past Amphoe Nong Ki and Amphoe Nang Rong.
  5. Turn left onto Hwy 218 to Buri Ram. Total distance is about 410 km.

 

From Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat)

 

  1. Take Hwy 226.
  2. Drive past Amphoe Chakkarat-Huai Thalaeng and Lam Plai Mat until you reach Buriram City.

 

 

How to Get to Buriram by Train

 

Buriram is easily accessible by train with trains leaving from multiple Thai cities. Most major cities have trains departing to Buriram City, and from there, you can transfer to smaller cities within the province.  There are plenty of trains from Bangkok to Buriram leaving daily.

Buriram City’s train station is located near the city’s centre at the intersection of Romburi Road and Nivas Road. The photograph below displays the back of the station which faces Nasatanee Road. Motorcycle taxis and tuk tuks are regularly available upon arrival.

How to Get to Buriram by Taxi and Airport Limousine

 

Hiring a taxi to Buriram is possible. This is dependent on the driver and particular to your situation. Some taxis will have rates to other cities listed in their taxis (i.e. on the back of their seat). For those that don’t, expect to negotiate.

Airport limousines are available for up to two people via Bangkok Airport Limousine.

The Buriram airport (BFV) is located approximately 35km from the Buriram City and is near the town of Satuek.

Nok Air operates flights between Bangkok and Buriram.  The Buriram airport has shops, restaurants, car rental and a free car park / parking lot.
